Percussion Ensemble

ALPS percussion ensemble has evolved from a Chinese drums CCA (Co-Curricular Activity) to represent an exciting transformation that broadens both musical horizons and cultural appreciation.

The transformation enables our students to build on their proficiency in Chinese drumming techniques and develop versatility, with the introduction of Western orchestral percussion instruments such as timpani, snare drums, and mallet instruments like marimba and vibraphone. This expansion also allows students to explore different musical genres, from classical compositions to contemporary pieces and world music.

This evolution of the CCA broadens the performance opportunities for the students, as percussion ensembles can participate in school concerts, competitions, and community events that might not typically feature traditional Chinese drumming groups. The ensemble becomes a bridge between cultural traditions whilst embracing musical innovation and creativity.
